Which Test is Easier for Indian Students?
"Easy" is subjective, but for many Indian students, the PTE often feels more achievable for a few specific reasons:
🗣️ The Speaking Advantage
Many students get nervous talking to a native English-speaking examiner face-to-face (IELTS). In PTE, you speak into a microphone in a cubicle. The AI evaluates your fluency and pronunciation. If you have clear pronunciation but get nervous in interviews, PTE is much easier.
✍️ The Writing Advantage
IELTS Writing is notoriously strict. Many Indian students score 8.0 in Listening/Reading but get stuck at 6.0 in Writing due to strict human grading on structure and logic. PTE Writing is AI-graded; if you use correct grammar, vocabulary, and follow the template, scoring high is highly predictable.
When is IELTS easier?
If you type slowly on a keyboard, or if you prefer reading on actual paper and underlining words with a pencil, the paper-based IELTS is your best option. PTE is entirely on-screen and fast-paced.

Verdict: Both are excellent. In a major recent update, IRCC now accepts PTE Academic for the fast-track Student Direct Stream (SDS) visa, putting it on equal footing with IELTS. Almost all Canadian universities accept both.

Verdict: Both are excellent. Both countries accept IELTS and PTE equally for 100% of university admissions and all visa types (including PR).

Verdict: Both are excellent. For a UK student visa, you need a Secure English Language Test (SELT). Both "IELTS for UKVI" and "PTE Academic UKVI" are accepted by the Home Office and 99% of UK universities.
